Find Rest in the Hustle
Hey pretty lady, let me tell ya something that might blow ya mind “YOU’RE ALLOWED TO RELAX!” In fact, God actually tells us to rest. WHAT?! I know, it’s a pretty legit comeback for the inner you that says “Get up and Go Go Go!” I’ve got 4 simple ways to help you find rest in the hustle.
I truly, truly desire to connect with God on such an intimate level, but my timelines don’t always allow for that. Lately I’ve become so tired of wanting this and not chasing it like I chase kids in a grocery store, (sike, if my kids ran in the grocery store they’d get the stare down of their life…that’s what parks are for), but you get what I’m saying. I’ve become so concerned with fulfilling everyone else that I forget to fulfill my deepest desire to draw near to the Creator. But ahhh, baby steps mama’s. Here are my 4 baby steps to slowing down and finding rest in the midst of the everyday hustle.
Wake up Early
Ooh, ouch! I know, I know! But I promise, the more you do it, the easier it gets. When you start the day with God, something wonderful happens. I can’t fully explain it, but even though life continues at it’s normal mind blowing pace, you’ve taken on a peace about it because you know God’s carrying you and you’re not alone. Commit those early moments to God. Willingly give a part of yourself (& your day) to God before everyone else takes a piece. Don’t forget to set the coffee pot on “auto” the night before for a much needed head start in the morning.
Music
No matter what, I always have music playing (you may have noticed how much we love music from my Instagram). Sometimes it’s intentional, blaring praise. And others it’s a few words that softly catches in my ear and reminds me of God’s love or simply brings me back to my “hang tight, trust that everything’s gonna be okay” center.
Bible App
Meditate on these things; give yourself entirely to them, that your progress may be evident to all.
One reason (among loads of other reasons) I love the Bible App is because you can set reminders for yourself.
Just STOP & pray
This is pretty obvious, but sometimes the obvious needs to be stated. Ladies, if our desire is to connect with God, then we’ve just gotta put a moment aside to make that connection. Sure there are times when we need to draw ourselves away from everything and bask in His quiet presence, but other times when we’ve gotta make like Nike and just do it, right in that very moment. Remember that praying is just another word for talking or communicating. God is looking at your willing heart. The more we run to Him, the closer we’ll get.
Exodus 20:10 reaffirms to us, that in fact, we should be setting aside an entire day to rest. While I pray this is your ultimate goal, I know that may seem a bit ambitious (especially with little kiddos), so here’s to the the 4 step plan!
Can I add a Bonus step? (Of course I can…I make the rules around here) I want to encourage you to take time to be with God and write out your prayers. Really focus on them, find out what the Bible says, and repeat back to God His promises. I’ve created these prayer cards to encourage you to pray for yourself and others. Dig into Gods Word and get to know what His promises to you are.
Much love, tons of giggles & continued grace,

Wow…when you said you’re so tired of wanting this but not chasing it…I’ve been there for too long. Adopting little boys who are virtual twins has kicked my butt, and I’ve let many excuses pile up as to why I don’t stop and spend time with my Savior everyday. I have to stop making excuses and get to it…because it’s so important. Thanks for this, so much❤️
Yes! I love all of these suggestions! Music is my best way to really connect with God, especially when I’m feeling distance.
Waking up early is such a hard discipline to develop but is always SO helpful when I’m in the habit.
Music is so important to me. It calms my soul and totally affects my mood!
Music and Prayer can solve just about anything. That’s a great Bible verse too. Thank you.
